Collection: Matt Clark

Matt has always been a programmer and following a serious illness got into painting as part of his therapy and recovery in 2005. He has also had a keen interest in photography and he opened a Gallery in Cheddar, Somerset, UK in 2007 to promote “The Beauty of God’s     Creation” where he sold his photographs of the local area and local artists work. He started Alpha Painting Holidays in 2008 in the UK which expanded across the UK and into Europe including Portugal in 2014 when Matt and his wife Gill decided to spend a few months of the year in The Algarve and they now live in Luz.

He has painted from time to time whilst running the holidays. Matt has always enjoyed landscapes and nature and concluded that if he couldn’t get outside in the landscape due to lockdown in 2020 he would bring the outside in and began painting more regularly.

He loves painting coastal scenes, seascapes, buildings/street scenes and landscapes and tries to capture a sense of realism. He is captivated by waves and can watch them for hours. He loves painting them and through his paintings wants to demonstrate their awesomeness and power.

He has always loved the Algarve since he first came here and has always been struck by the amazing light and vibrant colours. He loves painting mainly in oils as the richness of colour achievable from them shows the light and colour of the Algarve so well."
